The Perfect Storm

The large storm system, labeled "perfect storm" by the National Weather Service, occurred on october 30, 1991 off the northeast coast of the US.  The storm sank sword fishing boat Andrea Gail.  The Andrea Gail decided to go back out on another fishing trip, because they had fallen short of their limit with their first catch.  Instead of fishing their normal region, the Captain made the decision to head farther east to the Flemish Cap.  The decision turned out to be genius.  The Andrea Gail had caught a record breaking amount of fish.   Though they had success, their trip was cut shot due to the ice machine failing on them.  Their only two options were either to drive back strait through the storm, or to wait it out and loose all their fish.  The crew decided to drive back through the "perfect storm."  The Andrea Gail could not handle the large waves and winds that the storm produced.  The boat was never found, nor was anyone from the crew.

Rock and Cruz Plaza

Quartz is the most common of all minerals on the face of the earth.  Some refer to as the second most common next to feldspar.  There are many different varieties of quartz.



Granite consists mainly of the minerals, quartz, feldspar, and hornBlende.  It is the most common type of ignious rock.  Granite is a very hard and tough rock, which is used for a variety of construction uses.



Sandstone is made up of mainly quartz and feldspar.  Sandstone can be a variety of colors, but the most common are tan, pink, brown, yellow, red, gray, black, and white.  Sandstone has a very rigid and rough texture.



Mica occurs in ignious, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. It is a very thin rock, that is smooth and very tender.  Mica is usually a darker color (black).



The new Cruz Plaza just went under construction about a month ago.  In regards to safety, the perimeter is surrounded by erosion blocks.  Other things that are in consideration are the water lines that travel under the consruction site.  Recently since we've had our water shut off for alomost 4 to 5 hours regarding the construction.
